"Knowing, Being, Doing: Aboriginal Pedagogy in Practice" May 2025 Gosford
Event description
Knowing, Being, Doing: Aboriginal Pedagogy in Practice
Join us for an inspiring full-day workshop led by esteemed presenters Jessica Staines from Koori Curriculum and Belinda Huntriss from Freshwater Education. This immersive experience is designed for educators eager to integrate Aboriginal perspectives into their teaching practices through exploring Aboriginal pedagogy.
About the Workshop
Aboriginal pedagogy emphasises teaching through culture rather than simply about culture. Through this workshop, educators will explore the diverse ways Aboriginal peoples know, be, and do—fostering a deeper appreciation for Aboriginal culture and its significance in education.
Jessica and Belinda, both experienced Aboriginal educators, will guide participants through hands-on activities that include Aboriginal art, storytelling, and forming connections with Country. This workshop offers practical experiences that will enable educators to critically reflect on their own practices, discover how to weave cultural perspectives into their everyday teaching and build cultural responsiveness.
What to Expect
- Play Kits: Participants will receive specially curated play kits upon arrival, filled with resources to enhance their learning experience.
- Group Activities: Engage with fellow attendees as you unravel and reflect on your teaching practices. Collaborate to share ideas and insights that promote inclusiveness in the classroom.

This workshop is for all educators who are open to new ways of knowing, being, and doing, and who strive to create inclusive classrooms that celebrate the diversity of all children.
Meals Included: Lunch and afternoon tea will be provided, ensuring you are nourished and energized throughout the day.
