Knowing, Growing, Eating. Native Foods with Neville Bonney.
Event description
Join author, ethnobotanist and native food expert Neville Bonney to learn how we can identify, collect seed and grow a wide range of edible native plants suitable to our local conditions.
We are also joined by Karen Shaw who will share her experience from a decade of harvesting, preserving and catering with native foods. There will be tasty food samples to complement Nevilles in-depth knowledge on the topic for a full immersive experience!
Neville can do book signings, and books, native foods and plants will be available to purchase after the event.
About the presenters:
Neville has spent his lifetime promoting Australian native plants and their importance for food, culture and biodiversity. Having published 25 books, Nevilles 2023 book, From One Small Seed, is a comprehensive guide to over 700 native plants, their seeds and propagation methods. Neville is a strong advocate to integrate the use of native plants in for food and revegetation and is a popular community speaker.
Karen Shaw will prepare the foods for us to try. Karen has worked with Neville for many years and is also very active in the community education space, teaching people how to grow and prepare native food plants.
This session is seeded by Green Adelaide, and is kindly hosted by the Mount Barker Community Library.
