Event description

The Koala is one of Australia’s most emblematic animals.  But what really makes them tick and what do we know about them in our part of the world? Jim Blackney will answer these questions. Jim has worked in a number of natural resource management roles including wildlife research and involvement with the Koala re-location program.
Jim will discuss:

  • Where we find Koalas in our part of the world
  • Some of the history of Koalas in Victoria and the North-East
  • The physiology, behaviour and ecology of the Koala
  • Threats to Koala populations
  • Habitat restoration to support Koala’s
  • Managing injured Koala’s
  • How you can help and getting involved

Nb. This is a great opportunity to check out the recently restored cottage that is associated with the construction of the 1876 Beechworth branch railway line and is a building of historic significance.
