Event description

We are excited to offer young people an opportunity to come along and experience the carving and polishing of Kohatu (stone) at the Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata Trust.

This workshop is running on THURSDAY the 8th October.

We will guide you through the kaupapa, the kawa, and support you to create your very own kohatu taonga as a gift to yourself or someone else.

A carved and polished piece of kohatu can become the ultimate sensory tool, helping with many things including depression and anxiety. It is also a reminder of our place in the world, a unique creation made from a piece of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

This is wānanga will begin at 10am and will run for 5 hours to allow plenty of time to complete your mahi - there will be help available to complete the pieces on the day as needed.

BYO lunch - snacks provided.

Please note: Appropriate clothing is advised due to working with water, sanding/polishing and, if you wish to try out carving on the truck, spinning machinery. Health and safety conditions will apply.
