Kooii aligns to welcome all on a journey of their music and bring joy to the floor at Durrumbal Hall on February 8th. It’ll be an opportunity to go deep into your dance, immerse in the evolving music of the group and be nourished by the community connection.
Led by singer, songwriter and trumpeter, Peter Hunt, the journey shall traverse territory of new songs for the group as well as familiar homelands, sharing the evolution of their sound and feel that’s influenced by African music, jazz, reggae, neo-soul, funk and folk music of various cultures from around the world. Their songs are seeded with an intention to find belonging and connection with nature.
As is their way, they will open to the aliveness that music makes available to us and the inspiration and healing found in it’s joint creation. The journey will weave through the songs and into passages of improvisation. Their bed of rhythms will be held for all to find their liberating dance within and tend to the forest of their imagination.
Joining Peter in the core of the group shall be bassist, harmonist and fellow original member Tom Hinchliffe on bass, Terepai Richmond on drums, Bobby Alu on percussion, Travis Jenkins and Linden Lester on guitars and harmonies and Nic Campbell on keys and sax. They’ll be joined by special guest dancers and singers bringing their direction to the flow of the music.
