Kosmetika 'Special' single launch
Event description
Kosmetika invites you to celebrate the release of their new single "Special" on October 3 at the Grace Darling Hotel, Naarm.
Since forming in 2018 in the city of Tamaki-Makaurau by Veeka Nazarova and Mikey Ellis, Kosmetika shortly relocated to Naarm afterwards , putting together a full band and releasing three studio albums via the legendary local label Spoilsport Records. Blending influences from Krautrock, Disco, Shoegaze, and New Wave has ultimately created a unique style that paved a fresh path for the new single "Special." Experience the debut live performance of "Special," and catch the incredible support acts from Silicone Prairie and Frons.
“Kosmetika are one of those bands that pulls you out of your body into their own fantastical universe. You find yourself transported in a swirl of scathing synths and familiar yet twisted guitar lines. They dip their toe in many genres I personally love but make it their own – bit experimental, bit post-punk, bit art-pop, all immediate, all attitude, all guts, all Kosmetika,” the Wellington-based musician Vera Ellen told Rolling Stone AU/NZ.
"Kosmetika’s layered harmonies, synthwave, shoegazer sound defy a clear genre definition, reflecting the diverse geographic and cultural heritages uniting within Kosmetika’s collective members. Veeka Nazarova, born in Khabarovsk in southeastern Russia, shares songwriting duties with Mike Ellis, a native of Auckland, New Zealand" - CONE Magazine
"Kosmetika could be on the same festival bill as Bleak Engineers, or Automatic and have all the chord power of The Coathangers. Their influences may be familiar, but their 2023 album ‘Illustration’ sits head and shoulders above many acts trying to conjure the darkness from synths and guitars. This is noir-pop which still has a smile for us and feels like a flower growing the in shadow of an abandoned factory"-JOYZINE magazine
