KWOOP Seminar Series: Bringing Up Great Kids Parenting Program
Event description
This session examines a structured program delivered by Shine for Kids in Queensland that strengthens bonds between parents and children affected by incarceration. Developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation, the program delivers weekly modules covering child development, parenting skills, and communication techniques. The workshop explores how this evidence-based approach helps parents in custody reflect on the influence of parenting both from the perspective of adult participants as children (how they were parented) and as parents (how they parent). Participants examine implementation possibilities for the NSW context, considering local resources, existing services, and potential partnerships with organisations like the Australian Childhood Foundation.
Presented by Julie Hourigan, Chief Executive Officer of SHINE for Kids, who brings a wealth of experience in supporting vulnerable children and families. With a background spanning early intervention, domestic violence prevention, and homelessness services, Julie combines legal expertise with a passionate commitment to social justice. As a certified Results Based Accountability™ practitioner, she approaches her work with both heart and strategic vision.
