LA DESCARGA (bio) - https://ladescargaband.com/

A fearless outburst of tropicality that tickles your brain on the dance spot! Renowned for its spirited and vibrant performances, La Descarga brings a tropical boom experience full of fiery colourfulness and boneshaking rhythms. An iconic Latin-Australian music band where Colombian tropical roots music mixes with contemporary Aussie stamps

La Descarga was born in 2010 in Melbourne, as a tribute to the folkloric rhythms of the coasts of Colombia and as a preserver of its cultural heritage, it has evolved for over a decade through diverse musical and cultural collaborations, into a forerunner of Latin-Aussie-tropical music. While blending the traditions with electric and electronic sounds, it brings original tunes as well as old time retakes of the golden tropical days of Colombian music.

La Descarga has been influenced deeply by the street carnival cultures of Latin America with their upbeat music, colours and dance, mixing the old and the new grooves and moves of Australian, Colombian and world Tropical culture. Originally performing traditional drums, marimba, gaita flutes, with cantadores y cantadoras (traditional singers) and folkloric dancers, its traditional sound has merged, throughout collaborations with Australian musicians, with psychedelia, electronica and dub, expanding in 2018 to it’s the Electropical Orchestra format.

La Descarga has performed at many of Australia’s most beloved festivals, including the Firelight Festival, MOOMBA, Brunswick Music Festival, White Night Melbourne, Taste of Summer, and the Darebin Music Feast. In addition to these festival appearances, La Descarga has played sold-out shows at renowned venues such as the MONA Museum, National Gallery of Victoria, Arts Centre Melbourne, Brunswick Ballroom, Miami Marketta, Queen Street Mall, Northcote Social Club, and the Melbourne Convention Centre. La Descarga has captivated audiences with a series of vibrant singles, including "Elimínala", "Allá en el Río", "Chande Gozoso", and "A Demoler". They recently launched their highly anticipated debut album, "Fiesta de Corazón".

Currently, La Descarga is touring across Australia, bringing their explosive Afro-Latin fusion to stages nationwide with the support of the Creative Victoria Touring Program.

LOS CHAVOS (bio)  - https://www.loschavos.net/

Los Chavos live experience showcases the bands signature energy coupled with complex arrangements and a variety of Afro-Latin rhythms such as cumbia, dub/reggae, merengue, but never straying too far from their ska/reggae roots - as romantic ballads are given a ska/cumbia twist and hard-hitting merengue horns are mixed with calypso-hiphop!

An 8-piece explosion of Latin reggae energy, Los Chavos channel the festival sounds and urban rhythms of Latin America to sway hips from Canberra to Colombia. Fronted by Andy Jauregui, from Cochabamba, Bolivia, and backed by seasoned musicians from Australia and South America. Los Chavos have been moving crowds for over 10 years in Canberra and the festival circuit. Honing their craft with the sweaty crowds at the National Multicultural Festival, Floriade and many other smaller clubs and venues, the band released their debut EP in 2008, a tight testament to their live sound and their unique vision.

Los Chavos released their debut LP “Supermeng” in 2012 at the first Day Of the Dead Fiesta; a significant development and evolution of their live performances. The album showcases signature energy coupled with complex arrangements and a large variety of rhythms - but never straying too far from their ska/reggae roots. Romantic ballads are given a ska/cumbia twist and hard-hitting merengue horns are mixed with calypso-hiphop.

Having gestated in the nations capital and developed a large following of ex-pat Latin Americans, Jazz and funk aficionados and music lovers young and old, Los Chavos are ready to take their sounds to a wider audience and cut their teeth around Australia. No one can resist the vivacity of Los Chavos!
