La Follia - Cygnet

Join VDB for a program based on one of the oldest and most famous musical themes in Western classical music. 

Originating on the Iberian peninsula sometime in the late 15th century, the iconic "follia" theme has inspired artists from JS Bach to Britney Spears.

Composers used the repeating bass line to build increasingly wild, virtuosic variations that showcased extreme emotional changes and became a vehicle for exploring musical chaos and intensity.

This concert features works by Vivaldi, Marais, Guignon, Ortiz and more, performed by some of Australia's foremost early music practitioners on gut strings and instruments of the past.
