Description

Join Bridgette Parent, founder of Soul-Hive, for a transformative 3-hour guided journey at McClelland Sculpture Park. Together we'll explore one of the oldest meditative tools ever known—the labyrinth.

Acknowledgement of Country
In the spirit of healing and deep listening, we acknowledge the Bunurong / Boon Wurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the beautiful bushland, lands, and waters on which we gather. We pay our heartfelt respects to their ancestors and Elders past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples joining us. We honor their deep, continuous spiritual connection to this sacred Country and thank them for their enduring custodianship of this land.

The Experience

We will be walking "The Winding Path—The Search for Truth," a stunning labyrinth created in 2010 by acclaimed Australian artist Andrew Rogers. Best known for his massive global "Rhythms of Life" project—comprising 51 monumental geoglyphs across 7 continents that are visible from space—Rogers designed this particular piece to invite deep contemplation. This is the first event of its kind to be held at this very special location.

November is a truly gorgeous time of year at McClelland, and we are already imagining and hoping for a glorious, sunny spring day surrounded by the park's beautiful natural bushland and native flora. To maximize the peaceful morning energy, the park is opening its gates an hour early just for us at 9:00 AM. While the general public and the on-site cafe don't open until 10:00 AM, we will have the grounds to ourselves.

We will all meet near the entrance and begin our journey with a gentle, 10-minute grounding walk together through the bushland to the labyrinth, which is tucked away beautifully in the back of the park, completely secluded from the crowds. (I will provide exact meeting details upon sign up!)

Unlike a maze, a labyrinth has no dead ends; it is a single path in and a single path out. It is a path that leads directly to stillness, opening the doors to insight, clarity, and peace. Combining meditation, oracle cards, journaling, and heartfelt group discussion, this experience requires no prior experience. Simply come with an open mind and a willingness to slow down.

As you walk, you'll be invited to let go of the noise of daily life, tune into your inner wisdom, and receive a message and crystal at the labyrinth's centre. Afterward, we'll gather for a relaxed picnic lunch to debrief, share reflections, and enjoy each other's company in this stunning artistic sanctuary.

Agenda

  • 9:00 am

    Welcome

Guests will meet by the "Tubular Resonance" sculpture (large silver chimes) near the entrance, just beyond the parking area. After brief introductions, we will ground together and take a mindful walk through the gardens to the labyrinth.

  • 9:30 am

    Introduction to the Labyrinth

Once everyone is settled, we will learn about this ancient meditative practice, a little about the history, and some suggestions for contemplation to prepare for your labyrinth walk.

  • 9:50 am

    Set Intentions & Journal

Everyone will receive their own personal journal and pen. Take a moment to set personal intentions for your labyrinth meditation, and start journaling until your turn to walk.

  • 10:00 am

    Walk the Labyrinth

We will slowly take turns walking the labyrinth, staggering our entries, as we all journey at our own pace. There will be an option to choose a crystal, and to receive an oracle card for an added message in the centre. Everyone will journal silently before and after their turn to walk.

  • 11:15 am

    Picnic & Group Share

Once your labyrinth journey and introspective journaling is complete, each participant can bring out their lunch. The group will then open up to discuss our experiences for all who want to share.

  • 11:50 am - 12:00 pm

    Closing

We come together to honor our journey and ground our intentions to return renewed.

FAQs

  • What's Included?
    • Exclusive Early Access: Entry to the park at 9:00 AM, a full hour before it opens to the public

    • Guided Experience: A 3-hour journey facilitated by Bridgette Parent

    • Park Admission: Included in your ticket price (no extra entry fees)

    • Mindfulness Tools: Small journal & pen, oracle card, and personal crystal

    • Support: Guided meditation, journal prompts and a supportive group discussion

  • What should I bring?

As this event is outdoors, please be prepared for all weather with sunscreen, sun hats, warm layers/raincoat, bug repellent, as needed.

Please bring a blanket and/or camp chair for your comfort.

And please don't forget your personal PICNIC LUNCH and water/drink.

(Note the on-site café does not open until 10am. You're welcome to visit there after our session ends.)

Lastly, be sure to bring an open mind and heart. :)

  • Is my admission fee to the park included?

Yes, your ticket includes park admission, regularly $15.

  • Where do I park?

There is a free on-site parking lot that will be wide open at 9am as the park doesn't officially open to the public until 10am.

  • Can I get my picnic lunch at the on-site café?

Harry's Café opens at 10am. You are welcome to grab a coffee or eat at the café after the event finishes. If you choose to do this, perhaps bring a light snack for the picnic portion of the event, and save room for something yummy at the cafe later. Harry's Café has a wonderful menu.

  • Can I visit the park after the event finishes?

Absolutely! This is highly encouraged as there is so much incredible art and nature to be enjoyed.

There is also a lovely gallery and gift shop, as well as Harry's Café that deserve a stop in as well.

  • Do I need experience?

Absolutely not. Anyone can walk a labyrinth. And there's really no wrong or right way to do it. The group will be guided with some basic guidelines, but every person's experience will be unique.

  • Do I have to share in the group discussion?

The group discussion is completely optional. Those who feel they'd like to share about their experience are encouraged to do so, which often ends up being beneficial for the whole group. Each person can decide for themselves if they'd like to contribute, or simply take in the observations of others. It's all perfect. :)

  • Will we have access to toilets?

Yes. In addition to the main facilities, there are toilets towards the back of the park near the labyrinth available for use.

  • Is the Labyrinth wheelchair accessible?

The main gallery buildings, cafe, and restrooms at McClelland Sculpture Park & Gallery are fully handicap and wheelchair friendly with ramp access. However, the labyrinth itself is not fully handicap accessible, presenting some distinct physical challenges:

    • The Terrain: The labyrinth ("The Winding Path") is tucked at the very back of the park's 16-hectare property. The path to get there consists of unsealed, loose gravel bush tracks over undulating, natural terrain.

    • The Structure: According to the official Labyrinth Locator database, the labyrinth is explicitly listed as not wheelchair accessible. The path itself is constructed out of crushed rock and gravel tightly bordered by low, built-up stone walls. Pushing wheels or navigating with significant mobility aids through the circuits would require considerable effort and may not be feasible.
