Laggan grazing demonstration - field day
Description
Explore 11 years of data from the Laggan grazing demonstration, comparing fertilised and unfertilised native pastures and their profitability.
Event details:
Join South East Local Land Services' Matthew Lieschke for a walk through the Laggan Grazing Demonstration and explore a key question for grazing enterprises: Does it pay to apply fertiliser and lime to native pasture? The answer may surprise you.
This long-term study compared fertilised and unfertilised native pasture systems, measuring stocking rates, wool production, profitability, soil fertility and pasture composition over 11 years.
Join us to hear:
The key findings from 10 + years of grazing data
How stocking rates and profitability increased by more than 100%
Why legumes proved critical to production gains
The economics behind fertiliser and lime investments
How regular soil testing can improve fertiliser decisions
Real paddocks. Real livestock. Real economics.
In addition, we’ll also cover the latest results from the Bookham Fertiliser Trial. Established on a low fertility perennial grass pasture, this study has three main aims:
to gradually lift soil P to its optimum level for pasture production
to determine the most effective P -to- S fertiliser application ratio
to compare conventional fertiliser products with Agri-ash.
Pasture and soil test results over the four years will be presented in light of these three aims of the work.
