Event description

Experience the excellence of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet! Recently welcoming Douglas Lora of the distinguished Brasil Guitar Duo to their all-star lineup, LAGQ continues to embody the gold standard of guitar quartets. For over 40 years, they have been a pillar of greatness in ensemble playing and in the guitar community at large. Through monumental commissions, arrangements, and trailblazing achievements, their career has paved the way for countless quartets to follow.

The Grammy Award-winning LAGQ is one of the most multifaceted ensembles in any genre. Their inventive, critically acclaimed transcriptions of concert masterworks provide fresh perspectives on music of the past, while their interpretations of contemporary and world-music works continually break new ground. Programs spanning Latin, African, Far East, Irish, Folk, Bluegrass, American Classics, and Bach transport audiences around the globe in a single concert experience.

Their theatrical collaboration Don Quixote with Firesign Theater veteran Philip Proctor continues to enchant audiences, while Shingo Fujii’s SHIKI: Seasons of Japan, written for LAGQ plus guitar orchestra, connects communities nationwide. The quartet’s performances consistently draw sold-out crowds worldwide, bringing a unique energy to the stage that blends virtuosity with imagination.

LAGQ’s discography is as adventurous as their live programs. Their 2005 Grammy Award-winning Guitar Heroes followed the Grammy-nominated LAGQ-Latin. Subsequent releases, including Spin (2006), LAGQ: Brazil (2007 with Luciana Souza), and their celebrated recording of Rodrigo’s Concierto Andaluz and Sergio Assad’s Interchange (2010), have all garnered critical acclaim. The live DVD The Ingenious Gentleman: Don Quixote (2012) and New Renaissance (2015) further showcased their breadth. More recently, Opalescent (2022) highlighted their shimmering sound and versatility, while 2021 saw two landmark releases: the Grammy-nominated The Singing Guitar with Conspirare and Road to the Sun (Modern Recordings/BMG), Pat Metheny’s monumental work written for LAGQ, which reached #1 on the Apple Music Classical chart.

Whether in solo recitals or collaborations with choir, guitar orchestra, symphony orchestra, or flamenco artists, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet brings audiences an unmatched blend of technical brilliance, stylistic range, and innovation.
