Landcare Build Skills - Landcare Project Design 101

    Tuesday 27th August, 2024 - 1.30pm-2.30pm online on Zoom

A landcare project starts with an idea! - something that an individual or a group wants to achieve to address an issue or to protect or enhance a natural area. Many landcarers are big picture thinkers and are amazing at coming up with great ideas for landcare projects, but it is only through solid project planning and design that projects come to fruition and are successfully funded and implemented with positive benefits for the environment.

Whether you are a small friends of reserve group, or a larger landcare organisation,  designing your projects in a consistent coordinated way will not only mean you can better communicate what you want to achieve, but you will also find you have stronger project support, and in the end deliver a more successful project.

Join the WALN Team and our presenter, Caroline Hughes who will walk participants through a project design process she has found useful and effective over her many years in the landcare sector. The process will be applicable to a small scale planting project that a friends group may want to deliver, or to larger more complex projects that landcare organisations may want to deliver. Caroline assures us her project design process doesn't bog you down with unnecessary paperwork, but instead provides a user friendly step by step template for successful landcare project design.

    Our Presenter

Caroline Hughes , Executive Officer Leschenault Catchment Council

Project design and planning has always been Caroline's strength and her passion. After completing her Bachelor of Environmental Science in the early 1990s, Caroline had various environmental roles in waterways and fisheries management planning in the State public service and in 2008 completed a Diploma in Project Management, giving her a solid grounding in the fundamentals for successful environmental project design.

Caroline is now a familiar face in community landcare in the south west, working as Catchment Coordinator for GeoCatch for a short period, followed by a nine year stint as Executive Officer with Nature Conservation Margaret River Region, and her current role as Executive Officer with Leschenault Catchment Council in Bunbury.  Caroline is a Life Member of Nature Conservation Margaret River Region, volunteers with her local friends group where she lives on the Margaret River, and also works part time as Communications Officer for the WA Landcare Network giving her understanding of landcare at the State and National level.

In all her community landcare roles, Caroline has designed and secured funding for a wide variety of successful landcare projects.

This event is supported by WA State NRM Program and the National Landcare Network.
