Landholders Guide to Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Workshop

This very special event will provide you with all the information and inspiration you need to understand exactly what constitutes Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and how to protect it.  You will hear from Sally Hurst, Founder of Found a Fossil, who will give an introduction to what constitutes Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and why it is so very special.  Sally will share real landholder stories of working with Traditional Owners to conserve and protect Aboriginal artefacts on private land, and dispel common myths around land reclamation.

Dr David Cameron is a professional historian, archaeologist and cultural heritage management consultant based in Forster NSW. Over the past 25 years David has worked in a variety of operationally focused Indigenous and historic cultural heritage management roles in both government and private sectors in NSW and QLD. David has extensive experience with the identification, significance and impact assessment of cultural heritage, and conservation management, strategic and project planning associated with conservation tenures, mining, forestry, energy and infrastructure development projects. David is currently technical advisor - archaeologist working for the Gaangalu Nation People in Central Queensland. He will unravel the complex nature of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Legislation, what it means for local landholders and what to do if you find artefacts or other culturally significant features on your land.

We will have a panel session to field questions from the audience before lunch, then head out to a beautiful bushland reserve in Tea Gardens with known Aboriginal Cultural Heritage values.  MidCoast Council's Anthony Marchment will give us an overview of the reserve and how it is being managed to protect and enhance both biodiversity and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage values.

This event is free to all landholders in the MidCoast 2 Tops Landcare network and clients of the Biodiversity Conservation Trust. MC2T Landcare reserves the right to prioritise our members, BCT clients and local landholders, in the event of capacity ticket sales.
