A Concert Featuring The Hume Conservatorium Chamber Players & Consort of Singers

Landscapes of Life invites audiences on a musical journey through the inner and outer worlds that shape us — earth and spirit, memory and renewal, fire and peace. Each work paints a vivid landscape, reflecting how place, nature, and human experience intertwine, performed by the Hume Conservatorium Chamber Players and Singers.

The concert opens with For the Beauty of the Earth by John Rutter. Joined by the Hume Conservatorium Special Children’s choir, with radiant melodies and warm harmonies, this beloved work celebrates the natural world and the quiet joy of belonging within it — a fitting prelude to our theme of life’s landscapes.

In striking contrast, Fire by Katerina Gimon crackles with energy and urgency. Here, fire becomes a musical force of transformation — destruction, illumination, and rebirth — brought vividly to life by the Hume Conservatorium Singers.

The program continues with the Hume Conservatorium Chamber Players performing the quintessentially American suite Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland. Evoking wide-open spaces and quiet strength, its clear textures and folk-inspired themes reflect hope, community, and new beginnings.

From the American heartland we turn to the landscapes of Australia in Wheatbelt by Iain Grandage. This evocative work captures the vastness, resilience, and haunting beauty of rural Australia — a musical reflection of land and life shaped by seasons and stories beautifully performed by the Hume Conservatorium singers.

The journey concludes with the profound serenity of Requiem by Gabriel Fauré. Gentle, luminous, and deeply human, Fauré’s Requiem offers a landscape of peace — not fear or drama, but rest, consolation, and eternal light — sung with reverence by the Hume Conservatorium Singers.
