About this event

What is Last Aid?

Last Aid is Australia's first internationally standardised public education program that helps people feel more confident talking about and supporting others through serious illness, dying, death and grief.

This free 4-hour introductory course provides practical knowledge and skills to help you support family members, friends, colleagues and community members during some of life's most challenging moments.

Who can attend?

This course is open to all members of the community, including healthcare workers. No previous training or experience is required.

Why attend?

Serious illness, dying, death and grief are natural parts of life, yet many people feel unprepared to support those experiencing them.

Last Aid helps participants:

Increase confidence in talking about death and dying
Better support family members, friends and carers
Understand the importance of planning ahead
Learn simple ways to reduce suffering and provide comfort
Build knowledge about end-of-life care and bereavement

While Last Aid is designed for community members, healthcare workers and professional carers may also find it valuable for supporting conversations about death, dying and grief in their practice.

The course covers four key areas:

Dying as a normal part of life
Planning ahead
Relieving suffering
Final goodbyes

Palliative Care Queensland (PCQ) is a leading charity and independent peak body representing palliative care providers, consumers and their families and those with an interest in palliative care in Queensland. PCQ was established in 1988 and is a membership-based organisation, supporting the individuals, families, carers, community members, as well as specialist and generalist health care professionals working with Queenslanders experiencing serious illness, dying, death and grief. Collectively, the PCQ membership body holds tremendous knowledge and wisdom about the challenges the sector faces and the opportunities those challenges can bring. PCQ is a founding member of Palliative Care Australia.
