Launch event: Fundamentals of International Humanitarian Law online training course.
Description
The Australian Red Cross International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Program is pleased to invite you to the official launch of the online Fundamentals of International Humanitarian Law training course. This free course is an exciting and valuable addition to the existing collection of training resources on IHL.
In these times of growing international tension and increased incidence of armed conflict across different parts of the world, IHL is more relevant and important than ever before. This webinar will present a short overview of the training course, and showcase how the course can be used to strengthen IHL knowledge across diverse sectors including government, military, the private sector, civil society, academia and in schools. The webinar's speakers include the IHL experts involved in the design and development of the course, with reflections and practical tips on how the course can be used in practice.
Australian Red Cross is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (the Movement): a neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian network that operates worldwide to alleviate suffering. The Movement has a unique mandate under the Geneva Conventions of August 1949 and their Additional Protocols, and the Statutes of the Movement, to support governments, armed actors and populations in times of armed conflict. National Societies, like Australian Red Cross, have a unique mandate as auxiliary to their public authorities in the humanitarian field, including in times of armed conflict. This mandate includes the dissemination of IHL, as well as cooperating with their government to ensure respect for IHL and protect the distinctive red cross, red crescent and red crystal emblems.
