    Event description

    AUSTRALIA'S MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS

Please join us on Tuesday 20 February 6.30-8.30pm for a special event to kick off the IMPACT100 Sydney North Granting Year.

Australia's mental health crisis is a deep concern of IMPACT100 members. Mental health problems among young people have increased over 50% in the last 15 years with more than a third of young people experiencing a mental health disorder. An estimated 42.9% of people aged 16-85 experience a mental health disorder (ABS 2022). To unpack the causes and solutions, IMPACT100 Sydney North's Andrew Everingham will host a fireside chat with some extraordinary people working to reduce these distressing statistics.

We are privileged to be joined by Matt Berriman, Chair of Mental Health Australia. Matt will share his mental ill-health journey and commitment to leading Mental Health Australia into a new era to create the best mental health system in the world. Listen to his brave and personal story here. It's 4 minutes and really worth a watch. "65,000 people attempt suicide every year in Australia. That's one in 400... and nine people per day are dying on average." Matt could have been one of them.

We are honoured to also have Kristina Freeman, Co-Founder of Grow Your Mind, and Ian Heininger, CEO of Charity Bounce.

Grow Your Mind is a social enterprise on a mission to reclaim the term mental health. They want to arm all children (from the age of three), their educators and families, with the knowledge about what mental health is, and the key skills essential to supporting it.

Charity Bounce is helping at risk young people using resiliency principles, skills and training learned on a basketball court, focusing on Indigenous and culturally diverse communities. 60% of Indigenous young people aged 17-24 are not in education or employment, many suffering from intergenerational trauma, poor nutrition, depression and suicide, multiple health issues and lack of engagement with schools, employment and the wider community.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear our amazing speakers, be part of the discussion, catch up with IMPACT members, friends and supporters, and hear what's planned for 2024.

The event is being held in a private home in Mosman, we will provide the address closer to the time. Everyone is welcome, so please spread the word and invite anyone who might be interested.
