Accelerating Australia's Circular Water Economy: Report Launch

Australia's water sector reuses less than 15% of the water it treats. Every year, approximately 2,000 gigalitres of treated wastewater, along with the nutrients, energy, and materials it carries, is discharged to the environment rather than put to productive use.

Water carries enormous wasted value: carbon, nutrients, minerals, metals, energy, chemicals, and the water itself, all representing untapped economic potential for Australia's emerging circular economy. The current linear approach of extract, treat, use once, then discharge masks the true economic, environmental, and social value embedded in water and its associated flows.

Circular Australia, the Australian Water Association, Arup, and SUEZ invite you to the launch of Accelerating Australia's Circular Water Economy, a new report mapping the untapped value in Australia's water systems and the market, policy, and investment shifts needed to unlock it.

Drawing on industry experts, insights and case studies from Australia and overseas, the report examines four interconnected opportunity areas:

• Water Recovery & Reuse: broadening the viability of raw water sources, maximising reuse, and recovering embedded value from what is currently discharged

• Nutrients, Salts & Metals: extracting and recovering valuable constituents from water and wastewater streams

• Energy & Bio Products: recovering, optimising, and reusing energy across the water cycle, reducing reliance on fossil-based sources

• Components & Chemicals: reducing, reusing, and recycling chemicals and components used in water treatment across water sector supply chains
  

Circular Australia, AWA, Arup, and SUEZ will present the findings, followed by a panel discussion.

Who should attend: Anyone connected to the water sector, utilities, government, industry, research, and investors with a stake in water security, resource recovery, or the circular economy transition.
