Launching ‘Vessel’ : Mike Delaitre and Simon Whatley in Conversation 

Over the past year furniture designer and artist Simon Whatley and new maker Mike Delaitre have been working closely together to design and build a new two-person seat for communities across Fife. The seat, which they have given the title Vessel, is designed to encourage conversations between strangers and to foster greater understanding between people from different cultural backgrounds and communities. 

Join Fife Contemporary to talk with the artists and learn more about the origins of the project, and how Mike and Simon responded to the brief – their approach to design and research, finding common ground in design, their selection of wood, and the technical challenges of the build. 

Vessel has now been launched so it can reach out to connect communities across Fife.  

The commission for this project is the brainchild of Fife African and Caribbean Network and has been supported by Fife Contemporary in a collaborative co-production.
