Overview:

When circumstances are changing and priorities compete, leaders need both discernment and sound judgement. Discernment helps us pause, notice what matters, understand the wider context and consider different perspectives. Judgement enables us to weigh that information and decide when to act, when to pause and who needs to be involved.

When circumstances are changing and priorities compete, leaders are often required to make important decisions without having all the information or knowing exactly what will happen next.

Good leadership judgement is not about always having the right answer, it is about making thoughtful, timely and defensible decisions while remaining open to learning and adaptation.

This practical online session will explore how leaders can draw on purpose, values, evidence, experience and the perspectives of others when navigating uncertainty.

We will consider how to decide when to act, when to pause, who needs to be involved and how to balance collaborative decision-making with clear leadership accountability.

Participants will also explore how leaders can communicate decisions clearly, create an environment in which people feel safe to contribute and experiment, and recognise opportunities for innovation and growth as circumstances change.

Using practical examples and shared discussion, the workshop will help participants strengthen their judgement and lead their teams through uncertainty with greater clarity, confidence and adaptability.

This session sits within the Leadership & Decision-Making capability area of the LiiFT Aotearoa framework, supporting organisations at the Strengthen and Renew & Reimagine stages to strengthen leadership judgement, navigate change and make sound decisions in uncertain circumstances.
