Introduction to Leading Community Organisations March 2024 - 10 week online training
Event description
LEAD’s popular online leadership training returns in 2024. Join other community organisations from all over Aotearoa to explore leading and share the unique experience that is not for profit leadership. This introduction to our Leading Community Organisations programme is run over 8 weeks and covers the four foundations of leadership development:
- Leading yourself
- Leading others
- Leading an organisationÂ
- Leading a community
Every fortnight we gather online and together analyse and apply contemporary leadership thinking. All up it is ninety minutes of interactive training and networking and the opportunity to apply models and frameworks to your own organisation. In alternate fortnights everyone meets in small peer groups to work on a shared task for a deeper dive into leadership. Online there are readings and activities to complete and the facilitators provide personal feedback on reflections. Total learning times is approximately 25 hours.
During our time together we will explore a range of leadership theories to build your own
leadership skills, knowledge and confidence. Special attention will be given to leading in
complexity given the current environment we are all working in. You will finish the course with your
own leadership development plan and a capacity building plan for your organisation.
OVER 10 WEEKS THE PROGRAMME WILL CONSIST OF:
Self-directed learning (readings and learning activities you do on your own)
Small group discussions (via zoom)
Large group online workshops (fortnightly via zoom; first session 10am August 18, 10am 2023)
One on one coaching with the facilitators
Personal written feedback from the facilitators
SELF DIRECTED LEARNING
Full technical support will be provided to make the learning experience as easy as possible. We will
be sending you reminders and signposts the whole time the programme is running. The total
learning time will be approximately 25 hours.
Every week readings and learning activities will be loaded onto the learning site. You are free to do
these in your own time, at your own pace. At the end of the activities you will be asked to reflect on
them into private online journals that can only be viewed by the facilitators. We will give you
feedback. When you finish a module you will receive a virtual badge. Collect all the badges to earn a
LEAD Certificate of Completion.
SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS
Over the course of 10 weeks you will meet fortnightly on zoom with a small group of others on the
programme. You and your group will decide when to meet, and we do recommend it is alternate to
the weeks we hold the full group meetings. Others who have participated in this programme tell us
this was a highlight for them and some have committed to continuing with their peer learning
group beyond the programme.

LARGE GROUP WEBINARS
Once a fortnight we will come together as a whole group via Zoom. Pants are optional and snacks
are BYO, but we do suggest if possible, cameras are on so we can see each other. We will cover a
different topic each time we meet and we promise these are highly interactive sessions with
valuable learnings.
ONE ON ONE COACHING WITH THE FACILITATORS
Opportunity is available for one on one coaching with the facilitators if required to support you on
your leadership development journey. This is not a mandatory part of the programme but some of
our leaders appreciate the opportunity to discuss their leadership development planning.
Complete all the activities and receive a certificate!
