Learn & CREATE ~ Sgraffito 4 side plates
Event description
In this workshop, you will create and decorate a series of stunning side plates using the rolling and sgraffito technique.
What is Sgraffito? Sgraffito is a design technique where you scratch through a surface layer to reveal a contrasting colour underneath, allowing for intricate and beautiful patterns.
No experience? No problem! I will guide you through the entire process, ensuring you leave with your very own dishwasher-safe, microwave-proof plates.
If you’ve worked with clay before, this workshop will help you expand your skills and artistic abilities, drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature.
How the class runs; We’ll begin with a brief group chat before diving into the basics of clay. You’ll roll out slabs and shape them into your desired plate forms. Then, we’ll unleash our creativity with drawing, scribbling, and doodling to develop your unique designs. Finally, we’ll add colour to your plates and start the exciting process of transferring your individual creations.
These classes are perfect for enjoying with friends, or come solo and make new ones! They’re social, relaxing, and loads of fun.
As a special treat, enjoy a complimentary glass of prosecco and a cheese board upon arrival for evening classes, or fresh-brewed cacao or tea for day sessions. Classes run for about 3 hours.
After the class, your pieces will need to dry completely before they can be fired, glazed, and fired again. This process takes approximately 6 weeks, depending on the weather. Once your items are ready, I’ll give you a call, and you can collect your beautiful creations to use right away.
The class fee includes all tools, materials, and firing.
Please note
Please be aware that working with clay is a unique experience, and sometimes things may not go as planned. We potters humorously pray to the "kiln god" as we navigate the unpredictable nature of our medium.
It’s important to understand that pieces may explode, crack, or warp during the firing process. Additionally, colours may change as the clay reacts in the kiln. These outcomes are all part of the beauty and unpredictability of working with natural materials, and they can make the experience both fun and frustrating.
While I will do my best to minimise potential issues and guide you through the process, please keep in mind that clay often has a mind of its own and can be quite temperamental. Embrace the surprises, and let’s enjoy exploring the art of pottery together!
