Event description

You are invited to join SafeWork SA as they present two insightful forums on work re-design to manage psychosocial and other health and safety risks in workplaces.

Both forums are held on Tuesday, 29 July 2025.

Please note these events are not recorded or live streamed.

Lunch will not be provided during the event. Morning tea will be provided for Session 1. Please advise of dietary requirements if you have any when allocating your ticket.

Session One

Led by Associate Professor Carlo Caponecchia from the University of NSW, the first session (09:00 am – 12:00 pm) will be diving into how the Psychosocial Hazard Work Re-Design Tool (PHReD-T) was developed before guiding attendees on how to use elements of the tool.

Please arrive by 8:30 am for Session 1.

Session Two

The second session (1:00 pm – 2:30pm) will involve panellists Associate Professor Carlo Caponecchia, members of SafeWork SA, and other psychosocial health and safety specialists, exploring how to re-design work to manage psychosocial and other health and safety risks with reference to some workplace risk scenarios.

The aim is to help attendees understand how re-designing work enables organisations and businesses to meet the intent of WHS legislation.

Please email agdswsaworkenvironment@sa.gov.au for further information and for registration enquiries.

Would you like to share an example of a psychosocial risk scenario for workshopping at the afternoon panel session?

Attendees for the afternoon panel discussion are welcome to submit a risk scenario for the panellists to workshop.

This is an opportunity for up to two attendees to come away from the session with some potential work re-design solutions for current psychosocial and physical risk management challenges in their workplace.

All submissions will be considered by the workshop convenors and up to two will be selected for the panel to workshop.

If you wish to make a submission, please include information about characteristics of the workforce such as:

-        the tasks they perform, their needs, their skills, supervision arrangements

-        the workplace environment, such as environmental conditions and physical hazards

-        work processes and systems for consultation, communication, feedback, decision-making, learning and development

-        the equipment used such as machinery, tools and ICT systems

-        known psychosocial and physical hazards and associated risks to worker’s health and safety

-        Other relevant factors such as broader industry characteristics or pressures and the nature of the organisation or business.

Terms and conditions

  • Please do not include identifiable or other potentially sensitive information in your submission.

Please email your risk scenario to agdswsaworkenvironment@sa.gov.au

About the work design tool

Work re-design is a key control for psychosocial risks, as highlighted in new Regulations, Codes of Practice, and International Standards on workplace health and safety management.

Despite workers and managers in all roles contributing to the design of work, skill gaps remain in how to re-design for reducing psychosocial and other risks.

The Psychosocial Hazard Work Re-Design Tool (PHReD-T) was developed by a multidisciplinary research team in collaboration with SafeWork NSW to increase the skills and confidence in relation to re-designing work to reduce psychosocial risks.

The tool is supported by a freely available resource suite, including case studies, worked examples, and background materials.
