Learn to Dance Shuffle! October 2026: Beginner 2 & Progressions, Mishana Philly
Description
*** These Beginner 2 & Progressions classes are for rising novices looking to build their skills and continue their shuffle journey with more challenging flows and footwork.
If you're a newbie, check out Beginner 1 (Basics) here: Shuffle Saturdays in November!
Got your Running Man and T-Step down and ready to keep growing your dance skills?
This October, our shuffle classes are expanding into two different ways to keep growing. Whether you recently completed Beginner 1, have been dancing with us for a while, or learned the basics somewhere else, you’re welcome to jump in. Take either class on its own, or come to both for the full experience!
TUESDAYS 7:30pm: BEGINNER 2 • NEXT STEPS
Designed for dancers who know the basics and are ready to expand their shuffle vocabulary and strengthen their technique.
Each week, we’ll slow things down and focus on technique. You’ll learn new shuffle and cutting shapes moves, drill them individually, practice transitions, and then work them into short, approachable combinations.
This is your space to build confidence beyond the Running Man and T-Step, clean up your technique, and get more comfortable connecting moves together.
THURSDAYS 7:30pm: PROGRESSIONS • CHOREO
Ready to put it all together?
Progressions takes the moves, transitions, and combinations you’ve been building and brings them into a full choreography. Each class will focus on learning and running one routine, with more emphasis on sequencing, musicality, memory, transitions, and finding your own flow.
Newer dancers are absolutely welcome to jump in and challenge themselves, while returning Progressions students will have plenty to sink their teeth into.
COME TO BOTH!
Tuesday and Thursday are designed to complement each other. On Tuesday, we’ll break down and drill some of the moves, transitions, and combinations that will appear in Thursday’s choreography. You’ll also get familiar with the song before we put everything together. Then on Thursday, we dance!
Taking both of that week's classes gives you extra time to understand the technique before focusing on remembering the sequence, hitting the music, and running the full choreography. But each class can also be taken independently, so join us however works best for you!
Commit to yourself for the full series, or drop-in when you can!

YOUR TEACHER: Katia Arskaya
Katia started teaching herself to shuffle in November 2018 as a way to connect more deeply with the house music she loves. What began as a hobby quickly grew into one of the biggest passions in her life, and eventually into a love for teaching and sharing the dance with others.
Over the years, Katia has trained with shuffle instructors from across the U.S. and around the world, including teachers from Los Angeles, Austin, Miami, New York, D.C., Russia, Spain, France, and Canada. In 2026, she also attended Shuffleverse in Los Angeles, immersing herself in several days of workshops with dancers and instructors from different styles and backgrounds.
One of Katia’s favorite things about learning from so many different teachers is discovering that there is rarely only one way to understand a movement. Everyone explains technique a little differently, and she brings that into her own teaching by offering students multiple ways to understand weight shifting, rhythm, technique, transitions, and sequencing until something finally clicks in their own body.
Katia has been teaching sold-out Shuffle series at Mishana Philly since January 2025, and more than 200 students have now come through her beginner classes. Watching people go from their very first Running Man to confidently dancing full sequences has become one of the most fulfilling parts of her life.
And somewhere along the way, the classes became much more than classes. Students have become friends, going out together, practicing outside the studio, and even traveling to festivals as a shuffle fam.
For Katia, dance is a way to get out of the head and into the body, connect with music, and experience movement more fully. She is passionate about continuing to grow the shuffle community in Philadelphia and creating a space where people can learn and challenge themselves, let loose, sweat and experience the joy of moving together in sync.
