Event description

In this workshop, The ReCreators will teach you to safely use tools to construct a worm farm from heat-treated pallet timber. The worm farm made by you will be used by the Vegetable Community Garden created at Te Atatu Union Church.

You will leave with the skills and know how to make your own wooden worm farm, plus a FREE bokashi bin and in-ground worm farm.

Our gardening expert, Buffie will also walk you through the new community garden space

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • deconstruct a pallet
  • use a jig saw, drill and sander
  • access tools in a sustainable, circular way
  • identify pallets that are suitable for use in a garden and have a go at deconstructing one.
  • make a wooden worm farm from heat-treated pallet timber
  • make and use a bokashi bin and in-ground worm farm (which you get to take home)

The participants will learn the ins and outs of using a drill, jig saw and sander and practice with each tool by making their own bokashi bucket and in ground worm farm.

After a short break we will then have a go at deconstructing a pallet then break into to two groups to construct a worm farm from pre cut pallets.

The group of 10 people will be placed into teams where each will deconstruct a pallet and construct one tier of the warm farm and then join together.

Please wear covered shoes and tightish clothes.  You will be working outside so dress for the weather conditions and bring a drink bottle/ snacks.
