Learn to Paint Workshop: Winter Sunrise

4-Week Series | 1.5 Hours Each Class

This workshop is designed for beginners who want to gain confidence with painting techniques while creating a beautiful winter sunrise landscape step by step.

Week 1 – Painting Basics & Background Wash

Focus: Getting comfortable with acrylics.

• Introduction to brushes, paints, and canvas care.

• Practice brushstrokes: lines, blending, and dry brushing.

• Learn how to mix warm & cool tones.

• Create the base sky wash: soft gradients of orange, pink, and blue to set the morning light.

Week 2 – Building the Sky & Sunrise Glow

Focus: Layering & blending techniques.

• Deepen the sunrise colors with glazing.

• Add soft clouds with a dry brush technique.

• Introduce horizon line placement.

• Practice blending to create a glowing sunrise effect.

Week 3 – Foreground Trees & Reflections

Focus: Depth & perspective.

• Sketch and block in the tree shapes.

• Learn how to use shading and highlights to make birch trees look realistic.

• Add reflected light on the water with horizontal strokes.

• Practice creating depth with layers of evergreens in the background.

Week 4 – Details & Finishing Touches

Focus: Bringing it all together.

• Refine tree bark with thin brush details.

• Add shadows and highlights to snow for realism.

• Use fine brush strokes for grasses and edge details.

• Final touch-ups: adjust glow, add definition, and sign your painting.
