Crockery Collage: How To Use Decorative Decals with Maddy
Event description
Have you seen those beautiful mix plate displays on walls? Those ones that combine vintage op-shop plates with paintings and printed decals? Well this year we are all about bringing op shop beauties to the front and making them shine!
Bring along your own plate or three, and in this class we'll learn how to work with 'Water Slide Decals' to decorate and customise our crockery with unique designs and images.
Transfer paper works a bit like temporary tattoos - saturating them with water, then applying them to our ceramics until the paper backing slides away and the design transfer over. Once decorated, the designs can be further sealed adding extra durability before going on your wall (not food safe).
There will be dozens of fun transfer images to choose from, but if you'd like to print something specific (like a pet!) please send as a file of the photo or image and we'll print it for you so you're ready to go!

In this class you will learn:
- How to work with Water Slide Decals - preparation and process
- How to layer images
- Special considerations, tips and tricks
- How to 'bake' it so it last longer
- How to use ceramic and glass paints if desired
What should I bring?Â
Please bring your own ceramic pieces to decorate! We suggest bringing 2-3 pieces.Â
We will have lots of designs printed and ready to go, but if you have specific images in mind then please email them to us at melbourne@lanewaylearning.com
Please bring a bag or box to transport your crockery home safely.

Who will be teaching?
Maddy (she/her) is a crafty hobbyist based in Narrm who has a big heart for colour, expression and over-the-top jewellery. She enjoys working with all sorts of materials and mediums, and repurposing everyday items into expressions of art and fashion. As a musician, these wonky and not-so-wonky creations often find their way onto stages around Melbourne.
Maddy also enjoys carving and printing lino cuts, paper collage, and combining the two.
