Learning Together Series
Event description
Learning Together Series is aimed at parents and students who would like to gain knowledge on new technologies being used at Immanuel Lutheran College.
Educational professional Paul Hamilton will be providing these sessions in the Innovation Hub so that parents can further develop their knowledge of the tools that their children are using.
DATES & TOPICS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
9 October: 3.15pm to 4pm - Greenscreen and Canva
This hands-on workshop introduces families to the creative power of greenscreen technology and Canva. Students and parents will learn how to plan and capture greenscreen footage, then enhance it with Canva’s easy-to-use design tools. Together, they will explore how to combine video, images, and text to tell stories, create presentations, or design fun digital products. The session builds digital creativity, collaboration, and confidence—equipping families with practical skills they can continue to use at school and at home.
23 October: 3.15pm to 4pm - Creating art in VR (Primary and Secondary)
This immersive workshop introduces families to creative expression in virtual reality. Using Meta Quest headsets, parents and students will step into a 3D environment where they can draw, paint, and sculpt in mid-air—surrounding themselves with their own artwork. The session fosters imagination, spatial awareness, and confidence with emerging technologies, while giving families a shared experience of what the future of creativity looks like.
30 October: 3.15pm to 4pm - Introducing programming with bots
(Primary focus)
In this fun and interactive workshop, families will be introduced to the basics of coding through hands-on activities with classroom robots. Using simple block-based programming, students (and parents!) will give their bots step-by-step instructions to move, react, and complete challenges. The session emphasizes problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity while building foundational coding concepts in an age-appropriate, playful way. Parents and students will leave with a shared understanding of how programming works and how it connects to real-world technology.
6 November: 3.15pm to 4pm - Tinkercad and 3D printing
(Primary and Secondary)
In this creative workshop, families will discover the world of 3D design and printing. Using Tinkercad’s simple tools, parents and students will learn how to design their own 3D models—shapes, objects, or even custom creations—ready to be printed. The session highlights problem-solving, spatial thinking, and creativity, while giving families a chance to experience the full design-to-print journey. Everyone leaves with practical skills and a deeper understanding of how digital ideas become real, physical objects.
