    You are cordially invited to the lease signing ceremony and celebration for the WorldBeat Cultural Center on Tuesday, August 6th from 3:30pm-4:30pm. This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone, the signing of WorldBeat’s 25 year lease, and calls for celebration with the San Diego community.

    The ceremony will be held outside the WorldBeat Cultural Center on the Cultural Plaza (lawn).

    We would be honored to have you join us as we formalize this important step. Your presence will not only highlight the significance of this event but also will serve as an opportunity to thank you for your support.

    The celebration will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Jorge Gonzalez and will include:

    • Performance by Mariea Antoinette, San Diego’s top African American harpist 

    • African Libations by Starla Lewis with Drum call

    • Land Acknowledgment by Kumeyaay native and ethnobotanist, Kristie Orosco 

    • Performance by Aztec Dancers, Danza Colibri

    • Remarks from distinguished guests including;

    • Stephen Whitburn, San Diego Councilmember for District 3; 

    • Peter Comiskey, Executive Director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership (BPCP); 

    • Andy Field, San Diego Park and Recreation Director; 

    • Makeda Cheatom, Founder and Executive Director of WorldBeat Cultural Center;

    • San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria

    • A formal lease signing with Mayor Todd Gloria and City Attorney Mara Elliott

    • WorldBeat’s African Drum and Dance Ensemble

    • Traditional Native American songs by Tim Redbird and the Red Warriors drummers

    Refreshments and appetizers will be served
