LE CHEILE - An Irish Folk Concert with Anam Cara
Event description
As a child, singer-musician Michael McDermott learned about his heritage and place in this world through the songs and stories of his family and ancestors.
Michael says, "The old saying that 'everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day' holds a warm place in my heart. My grandmother always called our entire family, 'Le Cheile' which in Irish Gaelic means, 'togetherness.' Togetherness between two partners, or a gathering together for a bigger cause. To feel connected and shared in the songs and stories we grew up hearing told and sung by young and old."
At this special benefit concert for Charter Oak Cultural Center, Michael and his fellow musicians come together as ANAM CARA (from the Gaelic for "soul friends") to celebrate the stories and music of Ireland including tales and songs inspired by St. Patrick, Finn McCool," and more. Classics such as "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," "That's an Irish Lullaby," "Danny Boy," "Dublin in the Rare Ol' Times," and "Wild Rover," will be performed by an acoustic band alongside songs that may be new to you!
Songs and stories when told well, never leave anyone out, rather it will pull you into a night of shared togetherness “Le Cheile” that you won’t forget!
ANAM CARA is: Celeste Cumming (Cello), Mary Gardner (Bodhrán), Susan Mazer (Guitar), Michael McDermott (Vocals), Kathleen Mulready (Vocals), and Connie Scavone (Piano)
