Who is Women's Legal Service NSW?

WLS works from a feminist perspective to promote access to justice for women in NSW. We seek to promote women’s human rights, redress inequalities experienced by women and to foster legal and social change through strategic legal services, community development, community legal education and law and policy reform work. We prioritise women who are disadvantaged by their cultural, social and economic circumstances. We practice our work in 3 keys programs:

  • First Nations Women's Legal Program

  • Working Women's Centre

  • Women's Rights Program

What is the workshop?

This workshop is for allied professionals who support women to identify legal issues, understand the risks, increase knowledge on areas of law and facilitate referrals for legal help. Legal information will provided on the following topics:

  • Family and Domestic Violence

  • New Coercive Control Legislation

  • Apprehended Violence Orders

  • Family Law

  • Victims Support Schemes

We invite social workers, domestic violence workers, child protection workers, community service providers, First Nations access officers, health workers and other allied professionals to join us and share knowledge and expertise on issues that disproportionately effect women. Increase your network of support over morning tea.

* Please note that attendees must be associated with an organisation/service to attend.

Women’s Legal Service NSW was started over 40 years ago by a group of feminist lawyers who set out to advocate for gender equality and make the legal system fairer for women. They travelled across NSW in a yellow Kombi, providing free information and advice. We honour those women and as a specialist, state-wide legal service focused on women’s safety and economic security continue to travel across NSW to connect with frontline DFSV services, women’s health providers and community partners.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live and work and pay our respects to elders past and present.
