Legislative Advocacy for Decarceration and Human Rights
Event description
This is a quick introduction to the Massachusetts legislature, how bills get passed, and key points in the legislative timeline that advocates should keep an eye on.
This presentation is part one of a two-part series. Part 2 will be an educational and solidarity-building event held in person at Boston University School of Law on March 29th. This second event will bring together several local organizations to share their approaches to legislative advocacy and their priority bills this session. Please go to this link for more information if you are interested in attending Part 2.
This presentation is geared towards people interested in legislative advocacy around jail/prison conditions, sentencing reform, decarceration, reentry, and immigration (including anyone who is brand new to advocacy and who would like to learn what it entails), but we also welcome anyone in other progressive issue areas.
Hosts: The BU Law Antiracism and Community Lawyering Practicum, Prisoners' Legal Services of MA, The Campaign to End Life Without Parole, and The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts.
