Some of the talking points for these sessions are;
Getting back to the fun of sport:
• Value of sport in the community-benefits of sport
• Balancing competitiveness with the enjoyment factor.
Understanding why children dropout of sport
• Present recent data on key reasons for dropout from sports
• Unpacking the negative impacts of pressure, over-specialization, and unrealistic expectations.
• Addressing the role of parental/coach influence and emotional support in children's sports participation.
• Extensive negative impacts of even one experience of violence
Defining and Cultivating a Safe Environment in Children's Sports:
• Defining what a safe environment encompasses (physical, emotional, and psychological safety).
• Breaking down the blurry lines between what has been normalised and accepted in sport
• Recognizing and responding to signs of bullying, discrimination, or abuse
• What does it look like? What would you do?
• Discussion activity: What are the challenges we face in sport in terms of ensuring the safety of children?
• Encouraging everyone to “Start to Talk” about safeguarding in sport
• Self-assessment of whether or not we feel prepared to respond and take action
Co-creating expectations: Codes of conduct for safeguarding in sport WITH children
• creating an expectations of the club with the children (consider PBTR I Will, I won’t)
