Event description

Volunteer Managers/Coordinators are invited to join us for this special conversation with Dewayne Everettsmith from Mina Nina, focused on providing culturally safe volunteering opportunities.

This free Let's Talk session will provide practical elements for volunteer involving organisations to consider when engaging Aboriginal volunteers, including a suggested cultural safety checklist.

This will complement recent Aboriginal Cultural Safety Awareness training which was facilitated by Volunteering Tasmania and delivered by Dewayne in Rosny and Devonport, however the training is not a pre-requisite and anyone working with volunteers is welcome to register for this Let's Talk session.

This session is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services Volunteer Management Activity (VMA). The VMA aims to build the capacity of volunteer involving organisations to provide inclusive and accessible volunteering opportunities and break down barriers to volunteering for specified priority groups, which includes First Nations people.

About Mina Nina:

We are dedicated to preparing individuals, institutions and systems for meaningful engagement and partnership with Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Our tailored approach fosters cultural understanding, promotes respectful communication, and creates an inclusive environment. Through our programs, you will gain insights into the rich cultural heritage of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people, ensuring your interactions are informed, sensitive, and collaborative.

Dewayne Everettsmith - Mina Nina owner, cultural safety trainer and consultant
