Event description

Let’s Get Prepared is a series of workshops and resources to help you navigate the challenges of disaster planning. Presented regionally by Museums & Galleries of NSW for museums, galleries and Aboriginal cultural organisations as well as others in the cultural sector, the workshop is tailored to the region. It covers traditional disaster planning as well as theory, practical examples, cost and resource effective measures and focuses on collaboration and networking.

The workshop will run from 9.30am - 2:30pm with light lunch and refreshments provided.

We know organisations have many demands on time and money and that the sector needs easy to use templates and straight forward steps that will allow you to improve your disaster readiness. The Let’s Get Prepared program has been designed to prioritise actions that can be implemented quickly and make the most difference to your organisation. It is a practical workshop that you can use to better prepare yourself against flood, fire, extreme weather as well as less obvious disasters such as pests and mould.

This program covers the following:

  • Why do you need a Collection Disaster Plan?
  • Clear guidance for you and your organisation on
    - Minimizing Risk
    - What are the steps before, during and after a disaster.
    - Where to get more help
  • Key elements of a Collection Disaster Plan
    - Understanding the risks to your collection and building
    - Prevention and preparation for these risks
    - How to respond to the disaster
    - How to recover post-disaster

Participants will receive copies of up to date resources such as the AICCM Calendar, and ALL IS NOT LOST: The Collection Recovery Book PDF as well as be able to access ongoing support through follow ups and information on accessing expertise and funds in times of need.

Participants will also be invited take part in a follow up workshop session in early 2025 to share progress, ask questions and check in with colleagues.
