16 Guidelines Level 1 - Building Inner Strength Course
Description
The 16 Guidelines for Life are a set of timeless and universal human values that have inspired individuals for over a millennia. They offer simple steps and practical tools to help you reflect, relate more openly with others, and to bring change to your heart and mind, recognising that we are interdependent and interconnected to so many aspects of our world and what lies within it. They offer us the opportunity to develop a warm heart, a wise mind and a happy life.
The 16 Guidelines revolve around four key themes: thinking wisely, acting kindly, building strong relationships, and embracing change for deeper meaning. This approach promises not just greater joy but a better world.
They are underpinned by four philosophical themes:
1. How We Think: The way we use our mind determines the way we live.
We will explore
humility
patience
contentment
delight
2. How We Act: Every skilful action makes for a better world.
We will explore
kindness
honesty
generosity
right speech
3. How We Relate: To take care of others is to take care of ourselves.
We will explore
respect
forgiveness
gratitude
loyalty
4. How We Find Meaning: If everything is changing many things are possible.
We will explore
aspiration
principles
service
courage
Feeling better starts with living better.
There will be a Level 1 Certificate available at the end of the course - there are further trainings available: https://compassionandwisdom.org/16-guidelines-training-pathway/
About Venerable Tsultrim
Venerable Tsultrim (Carla Pearse) has been a student of Buddhism since 1998, and was ordained in 2009. She spent several years in India and Nepal learning from teachers within the various Tibetan Buddhist lineages and doing retreat.
Tsultrim has led retreats and workshops in India, Nepal and Australia on practical mindfulness, what is spiritual care at the end of life, and applying buddhism in day to day life.
She believes that most of us can find contentment in our lives, through understanding and training our minds. In particular, through the use of mindfulness to reflect on and examine our view of our internal and external worlds and how that affects our ability to find contentment and peace of mind.
