Event description

For many startups and entrepreneurs, good Intellectual Property (IP) means being able to compete with and stay ahead of larger corporations. Registered IP such as patents for inventions, trademarks for brands, designs for the way a product looks and feels or colours it uses or is known for, is a source of market power. So, how do we make sure we stay ahead, access the right tools and support, and be protected?

Proudly supported by the Department of Jobs,Tourism, Science and Innovation New Industries Fund WA, VentureX HQ is delighted to present this event with special guest flying in from Canberra, Michael Schwager, Director General of IP Australia on Tuesday, 25 October from 7:30am to 9:15am. IP Australia is currently offering multiple avenues to assist businesses across Australia, these include research into how the IP system can better support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, an SME IP Portal to support smaller businesses through a range of tailored resources, and a Small Businesses Upskill educational program.

Michael has over 20 years experience in IP, innovation and technology. Most recently using his expertise in administering IP rights and legislation, advising government and Australian businesses to make the most of their IP.

This event includes a light breakfast with expert insights into IP and how it translates to modern day innovation. As well as touching on the differences between business names, domain names and trademarks, and how to leverage and implement IP throughout the business journey with the right tools and support. Whether starting out, looking to export, or boost your knowledge of the IP system, this event is for you!

Please note tickets are limited and registration is essential.

Special thanks to our sponsors and partners that continue to amaze us with their support and contributions to our thriving local innovation ecosystem!

We’re proud to be a recipient of the X-TEND WA program grants, supported by the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and part of the New Industries Fund, created to help fund programs that improve investor education and build confidence in innovation projects.
