LGBTIQA+ Allyship in the Workplace training and Newtown Inner West Pride Centre tour
Event description
Twenty10's LGBTIQA+ Allyship in the Workplace training is a workshop to increase individuals' knowledge and confidence in demonstrating allyship to LGBTIQA+ people in the workplace. In this training, we'll cover foundational contextual knowledge about the experiences of LGBTIQA+ communities in Australia, the latest research about LGBTIQA+ people's experiences in the workplace, and tangible and practical ways that individuals at work can show allyship to their LGBTIQA+ colleagues, peers and customers. We will also share key advocacy pieces and organisational tools, emphasising the individual's role as an ally to move this work forward in their own workplaces.
Excitingly, participants will also be guided through a tour of Twenty10's new home at the Inner West Pride Centre on Gadigal and Wangal land in the place we know today as Newtown.Â
Participants of this training workshop will
- understand of the importance of language in LGBTIQA+ communities and have opportunity to practice using inclusive language
- recognise the impacts of discrimination of LGBTIQA+ people in the workplaceÂ
- identify the differences between tokenistic allyship and active allyship
- assess opportunities for growth in their personal practice of LGBTIQA+ allyship
The session will help participants learn how to create inclusive, supportive and safe(r) workplace environments and will provide guidance on meaningful and impactful allyship beyond the Mardi Gras season.
Light snacks will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own lunch if you want to eat during the session.
