Facilitator: Cathrine Stait-Gardner 
Learn to draw and paint people in this social studio complete with a life model and background music. Experiment with a different mediums and materials including ink, charcoal and pastels. Our expert facilitator will guide you with warm up exercises and experimental methods.

This workshop is a perfect next step for those who have explored life drawing or anyone eager to experiment further with figure portraits. 

Rather than focusing solely on close-up facial details, you’ll explore a broader approach to portraiture—working with anatomy, proportions, color mixing, light and shadow, and expressive brushwork. 

Workshop outline  

Bring one or two reference photos   
Week 1: Exploring composition and pastels 

Week 2: Experimenting with color, light, and shadow 

Week 3: Developing your artwork with acrylics on A3 paper  
Week 4: Refining and completing your final piece 

All materials, including canvas, acrylics, and supplies, will be provided – the only thing you need to bring is your creativity!
