Life in 1948: The Arrival of Holden
Hetzel Lecture Theatre, Institute Building
,
Event description
Hitch a ride with Don Loffler, a classic Holden specialist, as he takes you on a journey through the development and production of the Holden car in Australia. Don is a natural and fluent social historian who will show you how the Holden drove its way into Australian culture, changing the nation forever.
His presentation shows the austerity that Australians were facing in 1948, with rationing of essential goods, the fear from the threat of World War II, and the shock of natural disasters. All of which were tempered by the exciting arrival of the Holden car and its dramatic unveiling in Melbourne on 29 November 1948.Â
