The rivers and wetlands of the Murray-Darling are in a state of ecological collapse, while genuine solutions to provide them with enough water have been off the table for a decade. This year, we have a real chance to change that – and it’ll take all of us speaking up.

Join Clare Peddie, Deputy Environment + Energy Editor at The Conversation, the Murray Darling Conservation Alliance and a host of experts on the Murray Darling for panel discussion events in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.

It’s a chance to seize this moment by answering some basic questions – why is the Murray-Darling so important, what’s wrong with the river and how do we fix it?

This event will be hosted by Clare Peddie, Deputy Environment + Energy Editor at The Conversation.

The panel: 

Richard Beasley SC, the lead counsel for the 2019 South Australian Royal Commission into the Murray-Darling Basin and author of the book Dead in the Water.

Kate McBride, a young farmer, Parliamentary Liaison Officer and prominent advocate for the protection of the Murray-Darling.

Grant Rigney, a Ngarrindjeri man and prominent figure in Aboriginal governance. Grant is Chair of the Ngarrindjeri Regional Authority, Ngarrindjeri Peoples Native Title Compensation Charitable Trust, Murray Lower Darling Rivers Indigenous Nations and the federal government’s Committee on Aboriginal Water Interests (CAWI).

Prof. Jeff Connor, a Professor in Water Economics at the University of South Australia. He worked as an economist and group leader at CSIRO from 2001-2016 where he provided research and advise to the Murray Darling Basin Authority, natural resource management boards and state departments for water.
