    Event description

    Lifting the Lid

Lifting the Lid is an annual event that brings the Cairns community together to learn from, and connect with, professionals in the sexual violence support sector. Join us this year for a trauma-informed keynote and interactive workshop How to do the Work, facilitated by Matt and Sarah Brown from She Is Not Your Rehab.

    Event Information

This trauma-informed keynote and interactive workshop hosted by Matt and Sarah Brown is intended for anyone working in the family violence/sexual violence space or whose mahi/work touches upon the lives of people impacted by family violence - specialist clinicians and advocates, support staff, teachers, police, social workers, health professionals, family lawyers, therapists, community workers and leaders, government funders and policy advisors, academics and researchers.

This is not a look-and-learn; this is an experience based upon participation and vulnerability while building competence, self-awareness, empathy and courage in those who are first responders of the pandemic that is domestic violence. This is MORE than a staff development tick-box exercise.

This is our response when people ask:

HOW we stay enthusiastic about this work.

HOW we reach those that many cannot.

HOW we have built our global movement but still be relevant to our grassroots community.

    Hosted by Matt Brown

Taimalelagi Mataio Faafetai (Matt) Brown, is a New Zealand born Samoan author and renowned communicator who works to eradicate domestic violence by supporting those who perpetrate violence, to heal. A survivor of family violence and childhood sexual abuse himself, he originally started his domestic violence advocacy work by sharing his story with the men who frequented his busy barbershops as a way to foster vulnerability, healing, and connection. Matt believes his true calling lies in his work to redefine societies view of masculinity and to help end the cycle of domestic violence plaguing families all over the world.
