    Event description

Learn light-painting photography while enjoying the night sky in Joshua Tree National Park.

This is an ADA-accessible and leisurely activity - less than 2 miles with little or no elevation gain, shade and seating may be available.

Casey is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker living in Joshua Tree. He teaches photography through his company "Joshua Tree Workshops".

Looking for a different kind of night photography class? Try night painting photography with award-winning photographer Casey Kiernan. Every image is unique, and everyone will have a chance to be creative in this spontaneous style of image-making. Students provide their camera equipment. A DSLR or mirrorless camera and a sturdy tripod are required. Cell phone cameras are not sufficient for this workshop. All proceeds from this workshop go directly to Joshua Tree National Park!

All required items participants need to bring for the course: water/drinks, food, and snacks, easily packed and eaten in the field for the duration of your course; closed-toe athletic shoes or hiking boots; no sandals, not even hiking sandals; sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen; light-colored long-sleeved shirts are recommended and very effective on hot days, warm layers for cooler mornings/evenings (it can be surprisingly cold!), backpack to carry food, water, and any personal items you need for the day, notebook and pencil are always good to have. Required:  DSLR or Mirrorless Camera, sturdy Tripod. Recommended: Remote shutter - wired or wireless, with a red light on the headlamp.
