Event description

Light Underwater: Rimurimu Photograms is an analogue photography workshop hosted by Hannah Arnold.

You will learn to make camera-less photographic prints of seaweed species in a darkroom environment, using expired photography paper and with a focus on sustainable darkroom practice.

All materials are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own ethically and responsibly harvested seaweed species.

This workshop is appropriate for darkroom beginners, but participants need to be 12 years+.

Hannah Arnold is a photographer based in Te Tara-o-te-Ika-a-Māui. Her lyrical photographs explore a sense of personal and collective identity within a post- colonisation framework. This mahi is gently evocative, tracing the intersection between ecology, colonisation and religion. She employs traditional and experimental photographic processes, extending to installation and video and experimenting with a variety of materials. Hannah holds a Bachelor of Photography. She has exhibited widely and taught art around Aotearoa. In 2023, she completed an artist residency in Tokyo, where she learned photogram techniques. She is very passionate about rimurimu; last year her work documented the invasive Caulerpa seaweed crisis in Ipipiri.

This event is part of Love Rimurimu's Seaweed Festival 1-9th March 2025- see the full programme here: loverimurimu.org/festival

Unfortunately Inverlochy Art School is currently inaccessible for those with mobility issues and in wheelchairs as there are stairs upon entrance. We apologise for any disappointment this has caused.
