FAQs
- What is the Story of Toy Bank
Toy Bank began with a simple request. In 1994, Variety WA was asked to provide toys for children who had taken refuge in shelters due to domestic violence and other challenging circumstances. Children arriving with nothing. Families rebuilding from the ground up. And in the middle of it - a need for something small, but deeply meaningful. A toy. Something that belongs to them. Something that brings comfort, familiarity, and a sense of normality. From that moment, Toy Bank was born - led by the late Holly Wood, whose own childhood experiences shaped the heart of the initiative.
As a child, Holly had very little of his own. One of the few things he treasured was a small box of toy soldiers - and when it was taken from him, it was never returned. That memory became the foundation of Toy Bank. Today, the toy soldier remains a symbol of what a single item can mean to a child who has lost everything.
For 30 years now, Toy Bank has supported children across Western Australia by collecting and distributing new toys to families in crisis.
