Susan Marawra

Susan Marawra is a well know Manigrida artist whose work is widely hung throughout galleries across Australia including the Art Gallery of NSW, Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of Western Australia and the National Gallery of Aust. She is an accomplished printmaker, sculptor, weaver and bark painter. Common subjects of her work include the imagery of popular everyday items like dilly bags, fish-traps, mats and baskets. She is known for her use of deep perspective that creates graphic optical effects, movement and energy in her works. Her work is held in many national collections including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Victoria and National Gallery of Australia.

Mary Marabamba is a Kuninjku artist who lived at Manigrida and on her homeland of Mumeka. She was known for making sculptural and print works that reflect the traditions of her people. In particular, her sculptural works and linocuts of objects such as fish traps and baskets reflect the traditions of her country. She had a very contemporary approach to her work. Marabamba’s work is held in a number of public collections, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of South Australia Art Gallery of Western Australia, Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Australian National Maritime Museum and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art.
