LISTEN - Conservation on our terms: colonialism, conservation and communities
Event description
LISTEN to Conservation on our terms: Colonialism, conservation and communities
The conservation movement emerged out of Western ways of being, even though some aspects of conservation were influenced historically by Indigenous concepts. Deeply entrenched aspects of modern conservation, like the idea of 'wilderness', are profoundly at odds with the worldviews, values and aspirations of First Nations, Indigenous and traditional communities. As conservation practitioners, do we understand the problematic relationship between conservation and colonialism, and how we can approach our own work without perpetuating this?
Leading academic and First Nations thinkers come together to share their stories on conservation and colonialism, and to challenge us on whose terms we are really undertaking conservation. Join us for this deeply engaging discussion.
Starting at 8.00pm May 16th 2024 PGT (Papua New Guinea Time), the event will be live broadcast on Zoom.
Proudly supported by the Wildlife Disease Association and Gulbali Institute, Charles Sturt University.
