ADAMA FAKOLY DOUMBOUYA

A Master Drummer from Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), West Africa, Adama was born to play djembe in the traditional style of the Mandinka people from his father, who was an original member of the Koteba Drum & Dance Ensemble of Guinea, alongside Mamady Keita.

Adama has toured internationally as the lead djembe player of the Mother Africa Circus for 15 years, and more recently in the Australian company, Cirque de Africa. He has performed throughout Europe, Middle East, South Pacific, United Kingdom and Australia, where he has settled.

Residing in Brisbane Adama performs locally with his group African Fusion, and other groups across Queensland, including Spankinhide.

This man has the warmest heart and the kindest smile. His energy will fill the space with joy and passion!! And damn can he hit that djembe!!!

SPANKINHIDE

Led by highly respected djembe player, teacher and maker, Elliott Orr, Spankinhide has become a much sought-after African rhythm collective, with active members in Brisbane and the Northern Rivers. Drawing their repertoire from both traditional and contemporary sources, Spankinhide brings a dynamic and decidedly danceable set of rhythms and songs that transform their audience from wide-eyed spectators into a heaving, primal, spontaneous dance floor of wildness! 

Having played headline shows at the Woodford Folk and Island Vibe festivals amongst others, Spankinhide continues their legacy of delivering world class performances.

The very existence of Spankinhide is to fuel the fire of dance. Rich rhythms, driving doundoun melodies, crack and boom to fill the room! If you find you're not dancing, it might be wise to check your pulse - you may be dead!!! 

DJ Re-Vibe

DJ Re-Vibe is a Brisbane-based DJ and sonic medicine woman whose sets are crafted for movement, joy, and soulful release. Drawing from a background in somatic therapy and conscious dance, she brings an embodied understanding of music as a vehicle for healing and connection. As a proud member of Zormiwasa and having previously played with Northern Rivers drumming ensemble the Samba Blisstas, her roots in rhythm and ritual are woven through every set.

Her sound moves fluidly through Latin house, Afro house, Tech house, Funk house and World music, anchored by primal percussion and a ceremonial approach to the dance floor. Playful wildcards keep things alive and unpredictable, but at its heart, Re-Vibe's sets are about lifting the vibe and setting spirits free.

ZORMIWASA (meaning "come play music")

EPIC!! No other word quite covers this incredible performance. Under the tutelage of Elliott Orr, some 30 beautiful humans have been learning a few rhythms over 10 weeks to present at the Little Big Bang.

Dimbado, or Dimba Dong, is a traditional rhythm from West Africa. "Dimba" means "mama" and "dong" means "dance". So it is the dance of the mothers. It is a ceremony leading up to a wedding in which the mothers of the happy couple meet and dance. Naturally all the aunties, sisters and grandmothers are also celebrating.

Zormiwasa will also play Rutendo, an original composition by Chris Berry. Super fun 'party' rhythm of the 'fire' element.

And finally Zormiwasa will also play Yankadi and Macourou, also traditional rhythms of the Malinke people. Yankadi is a seduction dance and Macourou a celebration dance.

From complete beginners to Elliott's most dedicated students, some of whom have been studying with him and belonging to this community for 5, 10, 15, even 20 years, Zormiwasa will blow your mind and hearts right open!
