    Event description

Bring a picnic, bring a rug and join us for an afternoon of Springtime celebrations. The East Courtyard will host a variety of fun food vendors, roving performers and music.

Pause for family-friendly activities on your way to visit our Floriade Community garden; a representation of the Sounds of Spring.

Pop-Up vendors: Purchase refreshing non-alcoholic drinks from Altina, feed the family with tasty sandwiches and snacks from Sandoochie and enjoy dessert treats from Stephanie’s Donuts.

Craft and leisure activities: Paint spring-themed ornaments, play lawn games, go on a treasure hunt and enjoy the Floriade community garden!

Workshop: Maramaldanha Yadharr Gurayn - Introduction to Feather Flower making with Sarah Loynes, Gamilaroi Yularoi artist
Participate in an open feather-flower workshop shared through Gamilaroi Yularoi winangay gaay (story) and maramali (making with hands). You will be introduced to yinarr winangay (women’s knowledge) of yadharr gurayn (feather flowers) and invited to make your own feather flower using contemporary materials. All materials will be provided, however we encourage you to bring along any feathers or fibres you may have collected that you would like to add to your work.

Interactive Installation: Our Nest, by Kitty Malam and Gretel Sharp
Take part in an interactive installation facilitated by two birds. We invite kids and families to inhabit the world of the bird, helping to create a large collaborative nest using recycled and recyclable materials. Working together, we will consider how we create and nurture sustainable spaces as a larger metaphor for the way we care about our earth and our community. Join our birds as they fly around the space, collect items for our nest and sing the sounds of spring.

Little Day Out is a free event! However please your register attendance.

In the case of wet weather, the event will be held inside Gorman Main Hall and F Block - just wear a raincoat if you want to view the Floriade community garden outside!

Supported by the 2022 Floriade Community Grant.
